Adults With Serious Mental Illness
HHI's treatment programs for adults with serious illness offer a variety of services designed to meet the unique needs of individuals and their families/caregivers. Services include assessment and evaluation, access to multiple levels of treatment, psychosocial, employment and housing services, referral and coordination with external resources, hospital care coordination, utilization of peer supports and crisis services.
Each of HHI's programs for adults with mental illness is competent to provide services to persons with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorder. Treatment teams work together with each individual to ensure that assessments and treatment approaches are person-centered, comprehensive and focused on maximizing each individual's recovery potential.
Children with Serious Emotional Disorders
HHI provides strength-based, family-oriented services for children, adolescents and young adults, up to age 21, with serious emotional disturbances at our children's specialty clinic in Westland. This clinic offers a variety of services designed to meet the unique needs of children and their families/caregivers who are challenged with the management of a range of serious emotional disturbances of childhood and adolescents.
Levels of care include traditional outpatient, clinic and community-based case management, and home-based services and wraparound. Treatment teams work together with each child and family to ensure that assessments and treatment approaches are person-centered, strength-based, comprehensive and focused on maximizing each individual's potential.
Community Outreach for
Psychiatric Emergencies (C.O.P.E)
HHI offers emergency psychiatric screening and dispositions services to adults 18 years and older. Open 24 hours, 365 days per year, we work closely with community hospitals, police and other emergency personnel to ensure rapid access, a comprehensive evaluation and a highly individualized treatment recommendation within a safe and compassionate setting.
Court Services
HHI offers services approved by the District Courts Probation Department for persons requiring evaluation, educational programs in the areas of drugs and alcohol, aggressive behavior or shoplifting and random drug screening as part of probation. This program also offers State of Michigan approved Driver's License Appeal Division (DLAD) evaluations and reports for driver's license reinstatement applications. HHI's Court Program staff is closely linked to the local courts and is experienced in the necessary communications and other probation requirements. Random drug screening is monitored and follows legal chain of custody regulations.
Crisis Residential
Crisis Residential provides a supervised short-term residential alternative to hospitalization for adults with serious mental illness or co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders. Our Crisis Residential program provides intensive, individualized multidisciplinary treatment services in the comfort of a home-like setting with the goal of stabilizing a psychiatric crisis in as normal an environment as possible.
ENGAGE!
HHI's ENGAGE! program provides community-based support and linkage to treatment services for adolescents and adults identified in the community emergency department as having a Substance Use Disorder and in need of treatment. ENGAGE! Peer Recovery Coaches are available 8am to midnight, 7-days a week, to respond to ED requests and provide follow-up services.
Intensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are highly structured and focused service programs for adults and teens with substance abuse problems and/or co-occurring substance abuse and mental health problems. HHI's experienced IOP teams work together to ensure that assessments and treatment approaches are comprehensive and individualized. Team interventions focus on understanding the disease of addiction, effective relapse prevention planning and development of a healthy, satisfying substance-free lifestyle.
Outpatient Counseling
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are highly structured and focused service programs for adults and teens with substance abuse problems and/or co-occurring substance abuse and mental health problems. HHI's experienced IOP teams work together to ensure that assessments and treatment approaches are comprehensive and individualized. Peer Support and Recovery Coaching
Peer Support is a service provided by a person who has lived experience with mental illness or addiction and is committed to Recovery. HPI's Peer Support Specialists and Recovery Coaches offer support, guidance and share personal experience to help your goals. Peer Support Services are available to adults with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring mental and substance use disorders.
Primary Care Services
HHI's Comprehensive Health Clinic provides integrated behavioral and primary physical healthcare in a single setting. This approach seeks to support wellness during times of health, as well as during complex medical diagnoses and treatments. Primary Care Services offer a variety of interventions designed to meet the unique needs of each adult or family. Services include physical examinations, health assessments, acute and chronic illness care, vaccinations and laboratory testing.
Screening, Brief Intervention,
and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)
HHI offers SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment). Using evidence-based tools, staff provide a universal screening to help identify persons at high risk for substance dependence, provide provide patient education and linkage to treatment, support services and follow-up care.
WrapAround and Prevention Services
HHI's Prevention Center offers an array of community and school-based services aimed to prevent or reduce the incidence of the abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in our communities. Our certified prevention staff members are trained in various evidence-based interventions, work with community groups to both initiate and proliferate the impact of community coalitions and actively engages in evaluation of service effectiveness.

Wraparound is an intensive, holistic method of engaging children, youth and families with complex needs so that they can live in their homes and communities and realize their hopes and dreams.
