Each June, we recognize PTSD Awareness Month to increase understanding of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), reduce stigma, and support those affected by trauma. A widely misunderstood mental health condition, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), more than 13 million Americans are living with PTSD at any given time.
Many people still associate PTSD exclusively with military service or misunderstand its symptoms and impact. PTSD affects people from all walks of life, at any age, including veterans, first responders, survivors of violence, and individuals who have experienced accidents, disasters, or other life-threatening events. By increasing awareness and reducing stigma, we can help ensure that those affected by PTSD seek help.
